Obituary: Ricky Lee Windom
US Navy veteran passes away at 67 after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

Age 67, of Minooka, Illinois, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 15, 2025, at Lightways Hospice Home of Joliet after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

Ricky was born August 31, 1957, in Galesburg, IL, to the late Robert and Mary Windom and grew up in Lockport, IL. He was a proud US Navy Veteran. After the service, he returned home and worked as a roofer in construction.
Ricky was passionate about the outdoors and loved to hike, canoe, and survival prep. He enjoyed all sports, but his favorite was football. He could be found at car shows or taking adventurous rides on his bikes. Most importantly, he treasured the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Jackie (David Homan) Utter; grandsons, Tyler and Zachary Shank; sister, Pam (Roger) Hartwell; fiancé, Diane Bales and her sons, Brandon and Jimmy Bales; sister in-law, Paula Windom; niece, Michelle (Bob Muhich) Hartwell; nephews, Robert Ray Hartwell, James Dale (Jenny) Hartwell, and Timothy Eugene (Myrna) Hartwell; and many grand-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert Ray, Michael Eugene, Harold Leroy, and Danny D. Windom.
As it was Ricky's request, cremation rites have been accorded.
All friends and relatives are invited to gather at the information center of Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. Committal prayers and Military Honors will begin at 2:30 p.m. Ricky's final earthly remains will be interred in the cemetery columbarium immediately following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, www.pancan.org.
