Vincent DiBartolomeo

Vincent DiBartolomeo, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2023, with his family by his side at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Vince was born on July 8, 1934, in Joliet to the late Mando and Frances (Racki) DiBartolomeo. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. On October 13, 1956, he married Josephine Laychin, and the two most recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Vince worked for many years for the United States Post Office, retiring in 1989 as the postmaster of Mokena. Vince and his wife Josie were longtime parishioners of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Joliet, where he served for a time on the parish council. He was an active member in the Mokena chapter of the Lions Club, spending many years volunteering. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, walking, trap shooting, fishing, and traveling. He also shared his gift of fixing and repairing anything broken with all those in need. Vince was a lifelong fan of both the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. Vince was a hard-working family man, who was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Never did an unkind word or criticism pass his lips; he leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

Vince is survived by his loving wife, Josie DiBartolomeo; his devoted children, Dawn (Craig) Laszlo, David (Michelle) DiBartolomeo; his cherished grandchildren, Timothy (Kristin) Laszlo, Christopher (Leahia) Laszlo, Xander and Corrine DiBartolomeo; his great-grandchildren, Matthew, Alexandra, Levi, and Cody Laszlo. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Verna (Les) Horvath and Fran Zeimetz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Mando Jr. (Lillian) DiBartolomeo and James (Dorothy) Bartolome.

All friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Vince’s life on Monday, October 30, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2500 Arbeiter Rd, Joliet. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where he will receive full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Blue Envelope Fund at St. Francis Xavier Church. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at St. Joseph Medical Center as well as his in-home caregivers, Kim, Margie, and Morgan.
