Obituary: William R. McGreehin

Family man and a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy passes away at the age of 79.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

William R. McGreehin

William R. McGreehin, passed away suddenly at the age of 79, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home. William was born on August 18, 1945, the son of the late Andrew and Dorothy (nee Healy) McGreehin. Born and raised in Chicago, William was a graduate of St. Phillip’s High School, and after graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. William was united in marriage to Carol (nee Joens) on January 14, 1967.

William retired from Southern Wine and Spirits after a dedicated career in the trucking industry. He loved to golf, smoke his cigars, and drink beer with his buddies. William adored spending time with his family more than anything, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and also his granddogs.

William is survived by his children, Terry( Renee Wilde) McGreehin, Michael McGreehin, and Colleen McGreehin; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Shawn) Santos, and Jake (Desiree Betancourt) McGreehin; great-grandchildren, Noah, Ella, and Lillian Santos, and Gavin McGreehin; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol in 2018.

A Memorial Visitation for William R. McGreehin will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded.
