Over 1,000 Gallons Of Gas Spilled In I-55 Crash Near Plainfield: FD

Two semis and four passenger cars were involved in the Friday morning crash on I-55 in Plainfield.

PLAINFIELD, IL — More than 1,000 gallons of gas were spilled early Friday morning after one tractor-trailer crashed into another, according to the Plainfield Fire Protection District.

Fire personnel responded at 4:16 a.m. to a report of a crash on southbound I-55 by mile marker 260. Officials said a semi was driving north when it lost control, went over the median wall and hit another that was hauling gasoline.

The southbound truck was significantly damaged, causing its trailer to spill more than 1,000 gallons of gas. Four passenger cars were also involved in the crash, Deputy Chief Mark Reynolds told Patch.

The initial spill was isolated by responding personnel and a company was brought to the scene for the final stages of cleanup. The Will County Emergency Management Agency and the Environmental Protection Agency were notified of the gas spill, officials said.

Plainfield crews were assisted on the scene by Bolingbrook Fire Department personnel.
