Park Dedication in Memory of PFC Andrew Meari July 11

Ceremonies will be held July 11th to officially rename Mayfair Park in honor of Army PFC Andrew Meari.

Ceremonies will be held July 11th to officially rename Mayfair Park in honor of Army PFC Andrew Meari, who lost his life while serving in Afghanistan on November 1, 2010. At the May 13th Board meeting, Plainfield Park District Commissioners voted unanimously to rename in honor of PFC Meari, after hearing from his step-father, Jerry Meehan, how Andrew Meari had spent many hours as a child in that particular park.

“As Commissioners, I believe we all feel that renaming Mayfair Park in honor of this young man who gave his life in service to our nation is a fitting tribute,” said Board President Mary Ludemann. “As he enjoyed his neighborhood park, we hope residents both now and in years to come will look at his name and be reminded of his service and dedication.”

Already planned to undergo a renovation this year, the park will now have a flagpole and plaque in PFC Meari’s honor. The dedication ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 11th at the former Mayfair Park, located within Mayfair subdivision, at the northwest corner of Joe Adler Drive and Ruth Fitzgerald Drive. While parking is limited in the residential area, the public is welcome to attend.
