Pickup Tower Arrives at Plainfield Walmart

High tech vending machine fulfills customer orders in less than one minute

Walmart is announcing the arrival of a high-tech Pickup Tower at the Plainfield Supercenter, providing customers with a new, exciting way to shop. The Pickup Tower, a 16-foot structure that functions like a high-tech vending machine, can fulfill a customer’s online order in less than a minute.

To use the Pickup Tower, customers simply choose from millions of items available on www.walmart.com and select the Pickup option at checkout. An associate then loads the item into the Tower and the customer retrieves it by scanning a bar code sent to their smartphone.

“Our Pickup Tower provides our customers with a new, quick way to shop,” said Store Manager Carmen Garcia. “We’re committed to not only saving our customers money with our Everyday Low Prices but saving their time as well.”

Commitment to Innovation in Plainfield and Across Illinois
Pickup Towers are the latest example of Walmart’s commitment to digital acceleration and innovation, as well as convenience, helping customers save time and shop whenever, however and wherever they want.

Plainfield is the second Supercenter in the area to receive a Pickup Tower after the first of the region debuted in Aurora last month. Local shoppers can also take advantage of Walmart’s Online Grocery Pickup option at select stores, most recently arriving at the Oswego Supercenter just a few weeks ago.

The improvements are part of Walmart’s plan to spend an estimated $56 million over the next year in Illinois through the remodeling of 16 stores and the rollout of several in-store and online innovations, like Pickup Towers and Online Grocery Pickup.
