Piggy's BBQ Shutters Plainfield Restaurant

Owners are hoping to keep the spirit of Piggy's alive with a new food truck instead of a brick-and-mortar restaurant.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Piggy's BBQ, Wings & Fish, dishing Chicago and Texas-style barbecue, has shuttered its brick-and-mortar restaurant in Plainfield.

"We have tried all we could to keep Piggy's open," Owners Liz and Matt Warren wrote March 19 on Facebook. "However, due to rising food costs and overall declining economy, the volume of customers we need to continue our business is just not there."

The last night for the restaurant at 15507 S. Route 59 was March 28.

Originally established in Oswego in 2018, the barbecue joint moved to its first Plainfield location — by Dairy Queen at the intersection of Renwick Road and Route 59 — during the COVID-19 pandemic, a notoriously difficult time for restaurants. Piggy's survived in large part due to carry-out orders, Patch reported.

The end of its sit-down restaurant doesn't mean the end of Piggy's, though. The couple shared that after they announced their closing, they were inspired by the outpouring of support to "try and keep the dream going" with a food truck.

The Warrens created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to make "Mama Piggy's Kitchen" a reality. With a goal of $6,500, the couple is looking to help fund the purchase of a truck, equip the mobile kitchen and secure the necessary permits.

"We are deeply grateful for the support we've received so far," Matt Warren wrote in the GoFundMe. "If you've ever enjoyed a meal with us, shared a laugh at our tables, or simply want to see Mama Piggy's Kitchen hit the road, we invite you to join us on this new adventure."
