PLAINFIELD, IL — Owners of 59 Auto Repair in Plainfield, Linda and Rich Brauer, were looking for ways to help the community amid the pandemic, and armed with that desire, they are offering free oil changes to first responders from May 18-31.

In partnership with National Automotive Parts Association, the free oil-change program includes up to 5 quarts of regular or synthetic oil with a standard filter. Oil changes for this program will be done by appointment only. First responder identification must be presented prior to service. First responders include fire fighters, EMTs, police officers, and any medical personnel.

"We are always trying to give back to our community. When Plainfield NAPA suggested the program, we were very happy to be participating," Linda said. "NAPA is giving us the oil and filters, we are donating everything else needed for the service."

Linda said they are hoping to provide 150-200 first responders their service and just "want to say thank you for their hard work and dedication to our community."

The Brauers are also corporate members for the Plainfield Rotary Club that organizes several food assistance programs throughout the year, and because of their involvement with the Plainfield Rotary Club, they found out that the pantry was running low on supplies; especially toilet paper, canned tomatoes, vegetable, fruits, and macaroni and cheese.

That is when they started collecting items for the pantry and have been doing so for several weeks now. Anyone is welcome to drop off food donations at the store during regular business hours, and the couple will bring them to the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry every Friday morning.

"I believe there are a lot of people who are looking for ways to help in their community. We are hoping to make this easier for anyone that wants to help," Linda said. "We are very happy to see both our customers and community members dropping off donations. During times like these, you really see how strong your community is. We would love to be able to fill our truck with donations each week."

Linda said their shop would not be thriving "without the support of our community."

"We live in the best place on Earth and should always be looking out for each other. We know we are incredibly blessed to provide service in this community," she said. We know a lot of people are out of work and others are risking a lot to keep working. No one should go to bed hungry, and we want to do our part to make sure no one has to in our community."
