Plainfield Board to Vote on Baci Building Sale Monday Night

The board will also take action on the liquor license application for the new Capri restaurant in downtown Plainfield.

A year after buying a vacant downtown Plainfield building, the village will look to unload the property on Monday night.

The village board will vote on a proposal by restaurateur Darryl Sams to purchase 24018 W. Lockport St., a more than century-old building that got its start as a church and has been home to several restaurants, including most recent tenant, Baci Ristorante.

Village Planner Michael Garrigan said Sams plans to complete restoration and ADA upgrades on the building and turn it into a Creole-inspired steak and seafood restaurant complete with a custom-built saltwater aquarium.
The deal on the table is for $175,000, which is $50,000 more than the village paid for the building. The village also invested about $66,000 in roof repairs and mold mitigation on the site in an attempt to save the historic structure and bring it back on the tax rolls.

Also on the agenda for Monday night's special village board meeting is a recommendation to deny a certificate of appropriateness to allow the owner of 24215 W. Lockport St. to install vinyl siding and replace the windows on the property.

The board is also expected to sign off on a liquor license for the new Capri Sogno restaurant, housed in the former Finnegan's Pub location at 24102 W. Lockport St.
