Plainfield Brewery Opens Amid Power Outage, Asks Customers To Bring Lamps

PLAINFIELD, IL — Continuing power outages Wednesday in Plainfield forced one business to get creative in order to still welcome customers.

Werk Force Brewing and Ten Drops, both stationed in the same building off Center Street, had their operations affected the day after a severe storm ripped through Plainfield.

The brewery, which normally opens at noon Wednesday through Friday, originally shared it planned to open at 3 p.m. Wednesday due to the outage. When the time rolled around and power had yet to be restored, the team took matters into their own hands:

"Bring Your Own Lamp Party is ON!" Werk Force wrote on Facebook. "... The power may be out, but the beer is still cold… for now! Bring a lamp, bring your friends, and bring the good vibes."

The tap room will be open until 9 p.m. Happy Belly Kitchen, serving within the brewery, will remain closed.

The coffee shop said Wednesday morning that it remained open but couldn't serve beverages until the power returned. When the power wasn't restored, the business called it quits for the day.

"Thank you for all the support, love, patience, and good vibes while we ride out this latest adventure," Werk Force wrote Wednesday morning. "We appreciate you more than you know."

About 1,660 ComEd customers in Plainfield were impacted by power outages Wednesday morning, the utility company reported. That number only dropped by about 320 customers by 3:50 p.m.

Locals can place fallen branches and tree limbs at the curb for pickup. Plainfield Public Works crews began collecting storm debris Wednesday, including private property damage, but urged residents to have patience as the "process will take time."

Mayor John Argoudelis called Tuesday's storm "the worst in Plainfield since the tornadoes of 1990, 1984 and 1974."
