PLAINFIELD, IL — A Joliet man was arrested early Monday morning after he punched two Plainfield police officers several times while he was barricaded in a 7-Eleven bathroom, officials said.

Markis Johnson, 21, is facing two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and criminal trespass charges after the incident that began around 1:01 a.m. July 31 at the convenience store at 15809 S. Route 59.

Officers responded to the 7-Eleven after receiving a call that a man, identified as Johnson, spilled soda all over the counter before he barricaded himself in the bathroom, refusing to comply with an employee's request to leave the store, Commander Anthony Novak told Patch.

Police ordered Johnson to leave the bathroom, and when he refused, officers unlocked the door but couldn't enter since the man held the door shut with his body, Novak said. When officers entered several minutes later, Johnson stood in a fighting stance with both hands balled into fists. He punched one officer "several times" in the face before a confrontation ensued as police attempted to arrest him.

Johnson continued throwing punches, hitting both officers' faces and bodies. The two sustained minor injuries, including scraped knees, scratches, soreness and swollen lips, Novak said.

Once Johnson was handcuffed, he was evaluated by Plainfield Fire Protection District personnel for minor injuries he received during the altercation. He was then booked at the Plainfield Police Department.

Johnson, of the 700 block of Wheeler Avenue, is being held at the Will County jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond, with 10 percent to apply for bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 15.
