The Plainfield City Council approved a child care facility at Founders Plaza at its Monday night meeting.

The site of the facility was formerly the home of Founders Bank. The building is currently home to a veterinarian and physical therapy office.

Concerns were raised about the building’s proximity to Route 59, but plans for the building include a fence for the children’s safety.

“Cars will be going 45 MPH-plus,” said Plainfield Trustee Garrett Peck. “I guess I have reservations about this location altogether based on its proximity to Route 59.”

The fence will be about 8 feet tall.

“The planning commission staff does believe (the fence) does mitigate and address some of the safety issues pertaining to the outdoor play area,” Plainfield Village Planner Michael Garrigan said.

Trustee Jim Racich said he realizes that everyone is concerned with safety, but not every school is fenced off.

“We’d have to fence off the entire village of Plainfield,” Racich said. “I think they’ve made reasonable boundaries right here. What would you expect? Next thing they’ll ask for is to electrify it so no one tries to climb over it or something. I think it’s reasonable what they’ve done.”

Peck was the lone “no” vote in approving the facility.

There’s no word yet on when the facility will open.
