Plainfield Dedicates K-9 Memorial

The memorial at Riverfront Park honors the seven K-9 officers Plainfield has had since the 1970s.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police and local officials gathered at Riverfront Park on Wednesday to officially unveil the Plainfield Police K-9 Memorial. The monument, depicting a German shepherd, honors the seven K-9 officers Plainfield has had since the 1970s.

The granite marker reads, "My eyes are your eyes to watch & protect you and yours, my ears are your ears to hear & detect evil minds in the dark, my nose is your nose to scent the invader of your domain, and so you may live, my life is also yours."

A K9 agility training field used to stand on the riverfront property where the monument has been installed. The training field has been removed, but a large rock remains, according to the riverfront foundation. "Three of the past police service dogs, K9 Luger, Blackie and TJ are currently buried under a large rock located on the property of the Plainfield Riverfront located at 24321 Lockport Street," according to the website.
