Plainfield Event Aims To Save Lives In Honor Of Veteran

A July 8 car show in memory of CPL Brandon Meyers will help provide therapy dogs to veterans with PTSD.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Five years after the death of CPL Brandon Meyers, his family continues their work to help other veterans who may be suffering from PTSD. All are invited to celebrate the marine veteran's life while also helping to raise money through the non-profit Bubba's Dogs For Warriors to provide service dogs to veterans living with PTSD during the 5th Annual CPL Brandon Meyers Memorial Car Show 2018 Fundraiser For Veterans. Mom Wendy Meyers and others involved are working to provide servicemen and women with therapy dogs in the hopes of saving lives.

This year's event will take place at a new location - in Plainfield - at Craft'd, 16031 South Lincoln Highway, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 8.

Meyers told Patch she was excited about the event's new location as it's where her son grew up, so it's home.

Patch reported Brandon Meyers — known to family and friends as "Bubba," was just 25 years old when he took his own life on June 28, 2013. A 2016 analysis from the Department of Veterans Affairs estimated that 20 veterans commit suicide each day in the United States — and other estimates put the number even higher, according to Bubba's Dog's For Warriors.

A GoFundMe campaign launched in Brandon's memory was created in 2014 and has raised thousands of dollars to date.
