PLAINFIELD, IL — If Plainfield residents get a text from the fire department about t-shirts for sale, it's not actually coming from the Plainfield Fire Protection District, officials said Monday.

Officials are warning locals of an ongoing scam in Illinois that revolves around fire department t-shirts. Currently, Plainfield first-responders are not selling shirts, and if they were, "we would NOT text you to sell them," they wrote in a post on Facebook.

"We have not had this happen yet to any Plainfield residents, but we want to be proactive and let you know ahead of time," officials said.
