Plainfield Library Receives $4,500 Best Buy Grant

Generous award will fund teen robotics workshop program

The Plainfield Public Library District was recently selected to receive a $4,500 community grant from the Best Buy Foundation. The funds are being used to support a teen robotics workshop program at the Library this spring.

“We wanted to provide more technology classes here at the Library for our teens, but the cost of the equipment was more than we could afford,” said Veronica DeFazio, the Head of Youth Services. “This grant makes it possible for us to offer this exciting hands-on program.”

The funds were specifically used to purchase Hummingbird Robotics kits and Apple iPads. During the seven-week workshop, which began March 4, the teens are discovering a variety of uses for creative robotics. They will ultimately use the Hummingbird kits to design and build an amusement park model.

“Programs like this help inspire the next generation of innovators, and we are incredibly grateful to Best Buy for partnering with us,” said DeFazio.
