Plainfield Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash
The 48-year-old man was ejected from the car after it left the roadway and struck several stationary objects.

A Plainfield man has died after a single-vehicle crash on 127th Street near Elizabeth Dr. at around 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, according to Plainfield Police Sergeant Mike Fisher.
A preliminary investigation showed that Joseph Stiles, 48, was driving a race car-style Chevrolet Camaro eastbound on 127th Street when it left the road and hit several stationary objects causing Stiles to be ejected from the car. Stiles was given emergency medical attention at the scene and was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora where he died.
Fisher said the drag race-style car did have registration to be driven on the street at one point, but did not know if the car was street legal at the time of the crash.

“It had a complete roll cage in it and a very large engine,” Fisher said. “I believe the year of the vehicle was a ’71.”
127th St. was closed until around midnight Friday while members of the Plainfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated. Fisher said the crash is still under investigation. It won’t be known if drugs or alcohol were involved until toxicology reports come back.
