Plainfield Memorial Day Parade Coming Up; Streets To Temporarily Close

Due to the Plainfield American Legion Marne Post 13 parade on Memorial Day, streets along the route are expected to close at 10:30 a.m.

PLAINFIELD, IL — With Memorial Day just over a week out, Plainfield residents are likely gearing up for barbecues and various outdoor adventures. In town, Plainfield American Legion Marne Post 13's annual parade is returning.

The Memorial Day parade will kick off at 10:45 a.m. May 30 from Ira Jones Middle School, 15320 S. Wallin Drive, and travel east on Ottawa Street. The route will take the procession into Settlers' Park — near the intersection of Van Dyke Road and Ottawa Street — before ending at the memorial in the park.

The parade will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony, a rifle salute and band performances.

Ahead of step-off, the following roads will close around 10:30 a.m. and reopen at about 11 a.m. Parking will also be temporarily restricted on the blocked-off roads, according to Plainfield police.

  • Wallin Drive at Ottawa Street
  • Ottawa Street, from Wallin Drive to Van Dyke Road
  • Van Dyke Road at Ottawa Street

A limited number of parking spots will be available at Village Hall, along Village Center Drive, on Van Dyke Road south of Ottawa Street, and at Ira Jones Middle School, police said.
