Plainfield Muslim Group To Host Open House
The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs is asking residents to show support for its plans to relocate to a former Plainfield church.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs is inviting area residents to attend an open house for its planned Plainfield Community Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at St. Mary Immaculate Parish Church, 15629 Route 59.
The group is seeking Plainfield Village Board approval to relocate from its current storefront location in the 16000 block of Route 59 to a former church/Montessori school on Main Street. The proposal has met with opposition from neighbors who have complained of traffic concerns, and the village board has essentially rejected the measure twice — first by failing to second a motion to table the discussion to a later meeting, and again with a tie vote.
"The Islamic Foundation of Southwest Suburbs invites you to their first ever open house," the group said in a news release. "Please show your support to sign the petition for the Plainfield Village Board to re-reconsider and approve the Special Use Permit." The village is expected to consider the group's request for a special use permit again at its next board meeting, set for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Village Hall.
