Plainfield Park Board to Vote on New Interim Director, More Commissioners

Resolution to support state legislation to increase number of board members also up for a vote.

The Plainfield Park District Board of Commissioners will have a special meeting Thursday night to tackle two big topics: A new interim director, and a resolution to add two new members to the board.

The board is slated to vote on whether to appoint former Elmhurst Park District Executive Director Richard Grodsky to the post as the search for a permanent director is completed. Grodsky also served as director of parks, forestry and recreation for the City of Evanston, superintendent of recreation for the city of Evanston, director of host parks for the Chicago Park District and superintendent of recreation for the Dundee Park District.

The interim director position is currently held by Gene Coldwater, who assumed the role after the resignation of Executive Director Garrett Peck. Coldwater, the longtime superintendent of parks, had been named assistant executive director just days before Peck stepped down.

A new director could be hired by mid-July; deadline to apply is May 23.

Also on the agenda

A bill that would allow state legislators to name two additional members to the Board of Commissioners is making its way through the General Assembly, but the board will consider making the same change locally.

The board is slated to vote Thursday on a resolution that would increase its number from five to seven members.

In addition, a resolution to support the state legislation, House Bill 5593, is also up for a vote.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Professional Center, 24023 W. Lockport St.
