Plainfield Park District Commissioner Attains Elite Board Member Status

The status is achieved by participating in educational programs, volunteer participation, event attendance and other activities.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Congratulations to Plainfield Park Board Commissioner Syed Abedi, who was honored at the regular board meeting held March 8 for attaining Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Master Board Member status within the IAPD Board Member Development Program.

Master Board members must attain 750 board member units (BDUs) through participating in educational programs, volunteer participation, event attendance, legislative communication, local board service, agency development and other various endeavors.

Syed was elected to the Plainfield Park District Board of Commissioners in 2019 and is the chairperson of the Personnel & Policy Committee as well as co-chair of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.

“When an individual decides to run for the office of Commissioner for the Plainfield Park District, they are choosing to accept an uncompensated office” explained Carlo Capalbo, executive director of the Plainfield Park District. “The District is privileged to have such dedicated and invested board members such as Syed who gives selflessly and sets a high level of dedication to our parks and recreation system.”
