Several members of the local activist group Park Truth were on hand in Elmhurst Dec. 9 to accept their award when the Citizen Advocacy Center recognized their efforts in bringing about significant change at the Plainfield Park District over the past 18 months. The award reads, “Citizen Advocacy Center celebrates Park Truth with the Citizen Initiative Award in recognition of their outstanding efforts in organizing community members to scrupulously monitor Plainfield Township Park District as well as stand up to attempts to suppress public participation.”
Established after the May 2013 hiring of Village Trustee Garrett Peck as agency’s executive director, the grassroots citizen group was instrumental in expanding awareness that led to reorganization of the board and administration in the months that followed. Shown, left to right, are Deb Bostjancic, CAC Executive Director Maryam Judar, Michelle Kelly, Joe Bostjancic and Heath Wright.
