Plainfield Police Department Receives $91K In IDOT Grant Funding
The funds will help police conduct education and enforcement activities that "focus on violations that are contributory causes of crashes."

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department received $91,728 in grant funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation to help conduct education and enforcement activities, officials announced.
Specifically, the funds will be used on campaigns that "focus on violations that are contributory causes of crashes" as well as injuries sustained during crashes, according to Traffic Sergeant Eric Munson. Violations include speeding, impaired and distracted driving, failure to yield, disobeying a traffic control device and occupant restraint.
It's not the first time the department received this funding. Munson told Patch that PPD is given a grant each year.

"I have been traffic sergeant since October of 2007, and the Village has received funding from IDOT since my tenure, as I have applied for and received IDOT funding every year," he told Patch. "Prior to becoming traffic sergeant, my predecessor also applied for and received funding from IDOT. I remember IDOT funding being received when I was first hired as a police officer by the Village in 1999."
This year's grant is part of IDOT's 2023 fiscal year, which runs from October 2022 to Sept. 30, 2023.
