Plainfield Police Kick Off 3-Week Labor Day Campaign Friday
Plainfield police "will be out in force" to stop impaired driving, ensure people are buckled up and make sure drivers aren't distracted.
PLAINFIELD, IL — As Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, Plainfield police are planning to start their safety campaign targeting impaired, unbuckled and distracted drivers.
The Labor Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaign started Friday and runs through the early morning hours on Sept. 6, police said Tuesday. The department is teaming up with Illinois State Police and law enforcement agencies across the state to accomplish the ultimate goal: "to help save lives on our roadways."
"Plainfield police will be out in force to keep impaired drivers off the roads and enforcing other vehicle laws such as unbuckled vehicle occupants, and distracted driving, with the goal of ensuring our community's residents and visitors make it home safely once the celebrations end," officials said in a news release.

Ahead of Labor Day, police also provided several tips for community members.
- If you're hosting the celebration, make sure all your guests designate a sober driver in advance or arrange ride sharing or another sober ride home. Also, serve lots of food and include non-alcoholic beverages at the party.
- If you do not have a designated driver, ask a sober friend for a ride home, call a cab or stay where you are and sleep it off until you are sober.
- Do not let friends leave your sight if you think they are about to drive impaired.
- Always buckle up. It is your best defense in a crash.
