PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department will collect unwanted or expired prescription medications as part of National Drug Take-Back Day, officials announced Thursday.

Police are working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to offer the service as a way to provide the public with a safe, responsible and convenient way to dispose of prescription drugs.

"This national take-back day will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and any other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction and will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical drug abuse," officials said in a release.
