Plainfield Police's Memorial Day Campaign To Focus On Seat Belts

The May "Click It or Ticket" campaign in Plainfield kicks off Friday, and officers will be checking to make sure drivers buckle up.

PLAINFIELD, IL — With Memorial Day a couple of weeks out, Plainfield police are getting ready to start their "Click It or Ticket" enforcement campaign.

Starting Friday and lasting through May 31, Plainfield police will be reminding drivers to buckle up because seat belts "save lives every day, but they're only effective if they're used." The campaign, according to a news release Thursday, will focus on safety education and law enforcement support.

Currently in Illinois, the seat belt compliance rate is 93.5 percent, and unbelted car occupants account for more than half of those killed in car crashes, according to police.
