Plainfield Students Earn Honors At USF Art Competition

More than 150 students from 14 high schools submitted art to the University of St. Francis competition.

PLAINFIELD, IL —Four District 202 high school students’ artwork earned high honors in the 2017-18 University of St. Francis Illinois High School Art Competition and Exhibition.

Plainfield South High School senior Abigael Ramert won first place and $200 in the statewide competition for her colored pencil work “Undertone.”

Sophomore Oleg Bezuglov from Plainfield East High School, and PSHS juniors Samaah Khan and Kimani Tillman all won honorable mentions.

Twenty-six winning artists will be recognized during a reception from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the University of St. Francis Art Gallery, 25 E. Van Buren St., Joliet.

The winning artwork hangs in the art gallery and on the third floor of the Rialto Fine Arts building.

One-hundred and fifty-one students from 14 Illinois high schools submitted art this year.

The university has been hosting the competition for more than 10 years.
