Plainfield Students Earn State Journalism Honors

Kati Finnegan, Iris Wright are state champs.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Two students from Plainfield High School-Central Campus and Plainfield South High School are 2017 state journalism champions.

Sixteen student journalists from PHS-CC, PSHS and Plainfield East High School advanced to the 2017 Illinois High School Association Journalism State Finals at Eastern Illinois University on Friday, April 28, 2017.

PHSCC sophomore Iris Wright earned first place in Feature Writing and PSHS junior Kati Finnegan of PSHS earned first place in Copy Writing.

Finnegan is the first PSHS student to win a state journalism championship.

PEHS students Alia Kabba earned second place in Yearbook Copy Writing and Jennifer Burke and Gabby Hoffman earned third place in Yearbook Theme Development at the state event.

More than 300 student journalists from 77 schools across Illinois competed at the state level.
