Plainfield Students Take Top Prizes in Library Story Contest

District 202 authors took all nine prizes in the annual story contest.

District 202 elementary school students earned all nine top prizes in the Plainfield Public Library’s annual Short Story Competition.

The Short Story Competition is open to third through fifth grade students. The young authors had to write an original story in 500 to 600 words.

The Plainfield Public Library held a finale on Saturday, Feb. 11 for all competition participants.

3rd Grade:

  • 1st place: "A Turkey Who Did Not Want to be Eaten" by Aleena Yousuf, Liberty Elementary
  • 2nd place: "The Penguin" by Andrew Clark, Eagle Pointe Elementary
  • 3rd place: "The World Beyond Ours-Part 2" by Avery Miller, Creekside Elementary

4th Grade:

  • 1st place: "The Santa Trials" by Owen Cortese, River View Elementary
  • 2nd place: "Adventure on Mine Craft Planet" by Nathan Sperlik, Creekside Elementary
  • 3rd place: "Casey’s Adventure" by Emily Clark, Eagle Pointe Elementary

5th Grade:

  • 1st place: "The Troll" by Mia Graske, Liberty Elementary
  • 2nd place: "The Journey to Gold" by Macy DeGraff, River View Elementary
  • 3rd place: "Rocket, The Revolutionary Hawk" by Lia Di Cola, Central Elementary

Booklets with the winning submissions as well as the names of all the students who participated in this year’s competition are available at the Plainfield Public Library.
