Plainfield Trustees to Vote on Event Venue, Opera House, Downtown Events

Board set to meet Monday, March 2.

The Plainfield Village Board has a full agenda on Monday, when it will vote on a proposal to bring a private club/event venue to town, changes to a historic downtown building and proposed training structures for the fire department, along with several spring and summer events.

The board is set to vote on a special use permit for developer Clayton Olsen, who is looking to open Warehouse 109, a 3,855-square-foot event venue in an existing building at 14903 S. Center St.

The building is already home to dog training facility Lucky Dog Academy, Chicago Brew Werks and Tailwinds Distilling.

Fire training structures, Opera House

The Plainfield Fire Protection District is also seeking board permission for two training structures at the fire district headquarters and training campus at 23752 W. 135th St.

The buildings would cost between $475,000 and $500,000, the Herald-News reported. Plans call for a three-story, 2,528-square-foot structure for non-burning exercises including commercial and high-angle rescues; the second building would be a two-story, 3,840-square-foot building to mimic a single-family residential home for firefighting training.

Meanwhile, local business owners are seeking approval for a certificate of appropriateness for an addition to the Opera House building on Lockport Street.

Mike and Cassie Vaughn, owners of HopScotch & Vine and several retail shops in downtown Plainfield, have plans to convert the lower level of the building, 24027 W. Lockport St., into a lounge. Their plans also call for an addition onto the back of the building, with a steak and seafood restaurant on the second floor.

Also on Monday night’s agenda is a special use permit for Crash Champions, which is seeking permission to construct an auto body shop at 14022 S. Route 59.
