Plainfield's Cheesecake Push Pops Named Most Unique Dessert in Illinois

The Plainfield store's dessert topped a list of the 10 most unique desserts in Illinois.

A cheesecake store in Plainfield was recently given the honor of carrying the No. 1 unique dessert in Illinois, according to Only In Your State, a website that creates lists of various things on a state-by-state basis.

Steve Buresh, owner of Steve Buresh’s Cheesecake Store in Plainfield, said he didn’t even know about the ranking until customers pointed it out to him Tuesday morning.

“I didn’t know about any of this until all my fans on Facebook started sending me messages,” he said.

According to Buresh, the last name of the person who wrote the article comes up in his credit card batches, so he knows they were there, but he didn’t know what he was selling was in the running to be named in an article listing the most unique desserts in Illinois.

“It came up about a month ago that they were here so it was kinda cool to not even know,” Buresh said. “They’re lucky, too, because we do sell out.”

Buresh said the cheesecake push pop came about when he and his employees were fooling around with recipes for their cheesecake ice cream.

“We just kind of experimented with ways to make ice cream but with cream cheese, but after trial and error we found the right way to make it and make it creamy and good and rich,” Buresh said.

The business then started selling it and customers have been going crazy over it, according to Buresh. But it really took off when he started putting the ice cream in a push pop.

“The kids are asking for it. It’s been crazy ever since here. I have such awesome support from the people who live around here in the village.”

Buresh, a Romeoville resident, said the store sells about 100 push pops a week and will go through about 15 gallons of ice cream in a week, also. The ice cream isn’t scooped to order, though. People can just grab pre-made dishes out of the store’s freezer.

The Cheesecake Store, obviously, specializes in cheesecakes, but the cheesecake ice cream was just something Buresh wanted to try out for the summertime.

“I didn’t think it was going to take off as good as it did. It makes the ice cream really rich and keeps it from melting fast,” Buresh said.

Steve Buresh’s Cheesecake Store is located at 14210 S. Route 30 in Plainfield. You can see what the store has to offer on Facebook.
