'Accidental' Fire Causes $50K In Damage To Plainfield Townhome: FD

PLAINFIELD, IL — A fire started Tuesday afternoon in a townhouse in the 14500 block of South Patriot Square Drive, causing approximately $50,000 in smoke and water damage, officials said.

The Western Will County Communication Center received a 911 call at 2:14 p.m. Monday reporting smoke inside one townhouse of a five-unit building in the 14500 block of South Patriot Square Drive. Plainfield firefighters arrived within four minutes of the call to find a fire in the utility room and beginning to extend into the kitchen, according to a news release.

While some crews deployed a hose line to extinguish the fire, others conducted primary searches and ventilated the structure.

The resident of the affected unit was not home at the time of the incident, officials said. All other building occupants evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators believe the fire to be accidental in nature.
