PSHS Hosts 'Share your Boat with a Veteran" Bass Tournament

It started out a little wet and turned out to be a beautiful day to Share your boat with a Veteran. The I.S.H.A. rescheduled the Sectionals from Thursday until Monday and 6 boats dropped out of the tournament to practice for their Sectionals. All the Anglers of the 12 Boats shared their Boats, Fishing spots and exchanged Life Experiences throughout the day. There were 15 or so Veterans there at the weigh-in joking and telling stories and feeling appreciated for this event and a day of sharing.

The Bass Fishing team from Plainfield South High School has been blessed with Great Coaches and Awesome Sponsors. Without them we would not have been able to participate in so many tournaments and speeding up the learning curve. Plainfield South High School are the 2017 Illinois B.A.S.S. Nation State Champs . Through our sponsors support and being affiliated with Take-a-Vet Fishing.org this is the second tournament P.S.H.S. Bass Fishing Team have done for the Veterans the third one will be in the fall 2018. P.S.H.S. Bass Fishing Team Raised $7200.00 for the Vets in 2017.

The Plainfield South Bass Fishing Team is made up of a group of great young people who spend weekends competing in tournaments and sharing positive experiences with students around the state of Illinois and in national tournaments. The idea for this veteran’s tournament started when two of our anglers Jack Blomquist & Mike Bobich and Coach Bob Bobich went to Lake Springfield to practice the day before the 2016 state championship last June. When they arrived, they learned that there was a veteran’s tournament that day and offered to take out any veteran that didn’t have a boat to fish on. Before they could launch the boat, they learned that there was one veteran in need of a partner with a boat. There stood a man named Bill with an old fishing pole and a small box of tackle waiting for someone to share their boat and a few hours of their time. Through that unexpected chain of events, they gave back to a man that sacrificed so much to this great nation, but the true gift was given to our boys. They shared so much more than boat space and tackle that day. They shared stories and time with someone that doesn’t often feel gratitude for the sacrifices he made many years ago, and they helped that man win first place in the veteran’s tournament that day. Suddenly the opportunity to fish in the state championship paled in comparison to the experience they shared that day and the idea to host a tournament for veterans was born.

Overall 4 more teams qualified to go to the Illinois B.A.S.S. Nation State Championship on June 10^th. A Huge Shout out to all the Veterans out there we can’t thank you enough for your service.
