Relaxation of Kendall County Gun Range regulations
Proposed changes you need to be aware of in Kendall County
We ( a group of concerned citizens) need your help! Kendall County is proposing to allow major changes, largely written by the NRA, to the restrictions on Gun Ranges in our county. Some of the changes include, but are not limited to:
1) Removal of the minimum lot size
2) Downgrading the range safety supervisor from NRA certified, to anyone deemed qualified by the range owner, with NO definition of what those qualifications entail.
3) ELIMINATION of the requirement that a gun range must be 1000 feet from existing dwellings and property lines of SCHOOLS, DAYCARES, PLACES OF WORSHIP AND AIRSTRIPS.
There are other changes proposed which you can view here: https://www.co.kendall.il.us/wp-content/uploads/Petition_17-28.pdf
Note that the changes are highlighted in RED starting on page 3. With the exception of County Forest Preserves and State Parks being excluded, the remaining changes are WRITTEN by the NRA, we believe to the detriment of the county population. With approval of this proposal, as written, it IS possible for a range to open next to your children's school or next to your house of worship. Additionally, because of the way the county currently defines and DECLINES to regulate "private shooting in your own yard", it will be possible for your neighbor to set up his private gun range in his back yard as long as he has 30 feet of yard space for his AND his friend's personal use with no supervision or approval from the county.

This is currently scheduled to go before the REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION on July 25 at 7PM, before it goes to the board for a final vote. We need as many concerned citizens as possible at that meeting to POLITELY express our displeasure with the proposed changes, and offer better ways to address shooters concerns instead of just rejecting our rights to peaceful and safe enjoyment of our properties, parks, and institutions as per Illinois ordinance 55 ILCS 5/5-12001.
AGAIN: The current proposed changes can be found at: https://www.co.kendall.il.us/wp-content/uploads/Petition_17-28.pdf
