Obituaries

A resident of Plainfield, IL since 1995, formerly of Creve Coeur and Bement, IL.

She later moved to Lockport West High School where she taught Home Economics and Consumer Education.

Margaret "Margie" Larson (née Husted), age 88, a resident of Plainfield, IL since 1995, formerly of Creve Coeur and Bement, IL, was called home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at her home. She was born on September 10, 1937, in Newark, MO. She was baptized in the Illinois River in front of the Hiram Walker Distillery in Peoria, Illinois.

She is survived by her loving husband, Duane E. Larson, of Plainfield, whom she married on September 10, 1973; children Kira (Jerry) West of Vienna, VA and the late Dean Larson; grandchildren Wyatt West, Benjamin Jennings, Eric Larson, Kelly Larson, Britta (Jake) DeVere and Seth Larson. She was the devoted daughter of the late Guy and Lucille Husted, daughter-in-law of the late Clifford and Florence Larson, sister-in-law of Carol (the late Robert) Stephens, the late Wesley (Mary Lou) Larsen, the late Larry (Bette) Larsen and the late Richard (Linda) Larsen. Margaret was a wonderful friend to many. She will also be dearly missed by Bentley, her Welsh Terrier.

Margaret attended East Peoria High School, graduated in 1955 and then attended Illinois State University where she earned a degree in Home Economics. She received her Masters +40 in curriculum coordination from the University of Illinois. Her teaching career began in Bement, Illinois. She later moved to Lockport West High School where she taught Home Economics and Consumer Education. She finished her teaching career at Romeoville High School, retiring in 1995. Margaret loved to travel having visited all 50 states, finding off the beaten track excursions especially interesting. She meticulously planned every stop and researched every point of interest and calculated travel times down to the minute. Her organizational skills were legendary.

Golf was a regular activity until she was 84. A devoted and enthusiastic member of several area churches over the years, she was a volunteer church musician, playing the piano and organ. With her friends Bev Kokley, Pearl VanDahm and Kathy Ivec she organized day trips for the church’s senior citizens which she especially enjoyed. She also served as a greeter. Her last church home was Christ First Church of Minooka where she enjoyed many friends and bible study.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, 1:00-3:00 PM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home, 15219 Joliet Rd. (Corner of Rt. 30 and Rt. 59), Plainfield, IL 60544.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will immediately follow on Sunday at 3:00 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Andrew O’Neal officiating.

Interment will be Monday, March 30, at 11:00 AM at Plainfield Township Cemetery for committal services.
