Ronald C. Mentzer

Ronald C. “Ron” Mentzer, age 83, a longtime resident of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Joliet, IL and Phelps, WI, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Endeavor Health Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL. He was born on July 27, 1941, in Joliet.

Beloved husband of 61 years to Patricia J. Mentzer (nee Riordan), whom he married February 22, 1964, loving father of Ronald C. (Lisa) Mentzer, Jr. of Warrenville, IL and Rene Riedlinger of Daytona, FL, proud grandfather of Zachary, Matthew, Nicholas and Christopher Mentzer; Lucas, Jackson and Samuel Riedlinger, devoted son of the late Charles and Anne (nee Smajd) Mentzer, stepson of the late Edward Randich, dear brother of Charlene (the late Frank) Glowaty of Plainfield, the late Barbara (Bill) Sontag of Joliet, and Edward Randich of Ocala, FL, son-in-law of the late Thomas and Veronica (nee Boyle) Riordan, brother-in-law of Joan (the late Art) Fenske, David (Donna) Riordan, the late Tom (Eileen) Riordan and the late Cheryl (Steve) Fox, fond nephew of Patsy (the late Corky) Skoog, adored cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.

Ron grew up in Joliet and was a 1959 graduate of Joliet Township High School. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Ron began his career with Caterpillar Inc. in Joliet and later worked for many years as a mechanic for Sontag Speed Supply in Joliet.

Ron loved the outdoors, was an avid angler and hunter, and cherished his time in the Northwoods with friends and family. He could “fix anything” and enjoyed woodworking and especially making “Rucks.”

Services and interment will be private.
