Roof Collapses In Accidental Fire At Plainfield Auto Repair Shop: FD
Officials said the cause of the Saturday afternoon fire was accidental but led to the destruction of two cars and the building's contents.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The roof of an auto repair shop collapsed after a fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the business on Plainfield Road, according to the Plainfield Fire Protection District.
Officials said the cause of the fire that broke out at T.A.G Automotive, at 15924 S. Lincoln Highway, was determined to be accidental but did not say how it started.
Firefighters received a call for an activated fire alarm at 3:32 p.m. A fire erupted while crews were en route, resulting in the incident being upgraded to a working fire response and ultimately a full still alarm.

At the business, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire conditions in the far west end of the building. Crews took an aggressive fire attack approach to contain the fire to the portion of the building but were forced to fight it from the outside since the roof collapsed shortly after their arrival, according to a news release.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the one business, officials said, but it led to a "complete loss" of two cars in the building and all its contents.

The upgraded alarm brought with it additional manpower and apparatus, with neighboring fire departments assisting from Lockport, Joliet and Troy. Bolingbrook, Naperville, Romeoville and Bristoll Kendall fire departments provided station coverage while Plainfield firefighters were at the scene.
Volunteers from the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency assisted with firefighter rehabilitation, officials said.
