Rumors of Plainfield School Lockdown False
Schools in Plainfield, Indiana have been shut down because of a threat, not those in Illinois.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield School District 202 has put to rest rumors that a school within its district has been placed on lockdown because of an online threat.
According to a message from the district, schools in Plainfield, Indiana have been shut down because of the threat, not those in Plainfield, Illinois.
“There are many ’Plainfields’ around the country,” Director of Community Relations Tom Hernandez said in an email.

The district sent out the message so as to stop rumors from floating around on social media.

“District 202 schools are open, everyone is safe and business continues as usual,” Hernandez said.
Plainfield police said in the early morning hours of Dec. 17, police were alerted of a potential threat to the school district
“With the collaboration between the Plainfield Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a thorough preliminary investigation was conducted,” police said in a release. “As a result, it was determined the potential threat was directed toward the school district within Plainfield, Indiana.”
Plainfield School District 202 was contacted and at no time were there any students or staff in any immediate danger, police said.
