UNINCORPORATED MONTGOMERY, IL — A man who stole a Nissan SUV at gunpoint before fleeing a traffic stop was apprehended Saturday night after police used tire deflation devices to disable the vehicle, according to the Oswego Police Department. Oswego Police spokeswoman Cathy Nevara said the Kendall County Sheriff's Department, Oswego police and Montgomery police responded to a report of a vehicular hijacking at around 8:30 p.m. the Marathon gas station at Route 25 and Boulder Hill Pass.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Juan C. Padilla of the 0-100 block of Briarcliff in Montgomery, is accused of walking up to the victim, pointing a gun at him and driving off in the victim's vehicle, Nevara said in a news release. No one else was in the SUV, police said.

Oswego police encountered the stolen SUV about five minutes later at Route 34 and Osage Court, where they initiated a traffic stop. But Padilla drove off as officers approached the SUV, according to police.
