School Shooting Threat: Plainfield PD Arrests Murphy Student

A threat was reported at the Community Unit School District 308 campus Monday.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A female student was arrested Monday after Plainfield police responded to a reported school shooting threat at Murphy Junior High School, located in Community Unit School District 308. According to police, the threat was posted on social media. Plainfield police were notified at around 7 a.m. Monday and conducted an investigation with staff at the school.

Police said the juvenile admitted to making statements that the threat was done "as an experiment to see what would happen."

The girl was charged with disorderly conduct, a class 4 felony, and taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center to await a custody hearing, according to Plainfield police. She was not in possession of any weapons at the time of her arrest.

"We want students, parents and the community to understand we take all alleged threats seriously and investigate them to the fullest extent," Sgt. Colin Mulacek said in a press release. "After so many tragic incidents across our country, we cannot afford to take these matters lightly or fail to hold people accountable for their actions. We will continue to seek criminal charges for any confirmed threat to commit acts of mass violence."
