PLAINFIELD, IL — One seat on Plainfield's Historic Preservation Commission is open, and staff are accepting applications.

Commissioners attend monthly meetings and sometimes additional committee meetings to review applications and make recommendations for local landmark and historic district designations and certificates of appropriateness, among other "preservation matters." To make their decisions, they hear testimonies from residents, developers, staff and surrounding property owners, officials said.

"A Commissioner is required to have an open mind, demonstrated interest, an understanding of the Village’s Historic Preservation Ordinance, and good judgment in the public interest while fostering an intellectual and factual examination of the issues together with other commissioners in a public setting," village staff said in a news release.
