Semi-Tractor Overturns, Spilling 19 Tons Of Dirt Onto Route 126: Cops

A stretch of Route 126 was closed while crews cleaned up the spilled dirt following a crash that occurred around 11:45 a.m. Thursday.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A semi-tractor with a dump trailer overturned after a crash on Route 126 Thursday morning, spilling about 19 tons of black dirt onto the roadway, Plainfield police said.

Police said a Honda Civic was also involved in the crash but did not specify how it occurred. The sedan's driver was not injured, officials said, but the truck driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

As a result of the crash, which happened around 11:45 a.m. Thursday, a stretch of Route 126 was closed to traffic until about 2:30 p.m. while crews clean up the spilled dirt.

The roads that were closed included:

  • Route 126, between Route 59 and Essington Road
  • Eastern Avenue at Route 126
  • Center Street at Route 126
  • Bartlett Street at Route 126
  • Mill Street at Route 126
  • Michigan Street at Route 126
