'Shop With A Cop' Spreads Holiday Cheer In Plainfield
The program has helped kids create happy holidays for their families for nearly a decade.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police will continue their tradition of helping local kids make holidays a bit brighter for their families with the annual "Shop With A Cop" program. The Plainfield village board on Monday gave the go-ahead for the Plainfield Police Department to purchase 40 gift cards in the amount of $300 — a total of $12,000 — from Target to allow students in the Plainfield and Oswego school districts to shop for gifts this year with the help of a Plainfield cop.
This year's shopping trip is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 22. Kids will team up with an officer to buy presents for their whole family in a tradition that first began in Plainfield in 2008.
Under the program, the school districts each nominate students whose family could use some financial help during the holiday season.
