PLAINFIELD, IL — An unassuming 107-year-old house in Plainfield is making the rounds on social media, so much so that the Will County Sheriff's Office was brought into the mix.

The two-story house at 25725 W. 143rd St. spans 1,786 square feet and looks like it has seen better days — the roof is dilapidated and shingles are haggard. TikTok videos are racking up views as users discuss flashing lights on the property. Some are convinced the lights are transmitting the Morse code signal for SOS.

Some Reddit users say the house "has been blinking Morse code for 2 months now," starting with one light on the front porch, then a second one on the side porch, and later a third on the back porch.

"That has led to a heightened concern that something suspicious is happening on that property," the sheriff's office said Thursday.

As a result, deputies visited the house "multiple times" and assured the community in a Facebook post Thursday that "everything is locked up or boarded up with no signs of anyone living there."

Deputies contacted the property owner, who informed them that the lights are solar lights that are flashing because they are defective or low on power. The owner told detectives and posted a TikTok video that the lights were being replaced.

"The Will County Sheriff’s Office will continue to, as always, follow up on suspicious activity and neighborhood concerns," officials said.

Sitting on more than 21.5 acres of property, the house last sold in 2021 for $2 million.
