Spring Musical Theater Season Begins At Plainfield High Schools

All four District 202 high schools are preparing to perform spring musicals, including "Little Women" and "High School Musical."

PLAINFIELD, IL — As the season begins to ever-so-slowly change from wet and dreary winter to sunny spring, high school musicians from Plainfield District 202 are preparing to entertain the community with a slate of spring musicals.

All four high schools in District 202 are working on a production. At Plainfield North, students will put on "High School Musical," while Plainfield East thespians will present "Cinderella: The Enchanted Edition." A production of "Little Women" will be going on at Plainfield South, and Plainfield Central students will present "Beauty and the Beast."

Plays will run throughout March and April, and tickets cost between $5 to $10, depending on the high school.

"Cinderella: The Enchanted Edition"

  • Where: Plainfield East, 12001 S. Naperville Road
  • When: 7 p.m. March 17, 18 and 19; 2 p.m. March 20
  • What: The musical tells the classic tale of Cinderella, who, with the held of her godmother, gets to attend a ball. The production is inspired by the acclaimed 1997 teleplay starring Brandy and Whitney Houston.
  • Tickets: $7 in advance for adults; $5 for students, staff and senior citizens

"High School Musical"

  • Where: Plainfield North, 12005 S. 248th St.
  • When: 7:30 p.m. March 18 and 19; 2:30 p.m. March 20
  • What: Troy, Gabriella, and the students at their high school must deal with issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities. When Troy and Gabriella decide to audition for the high school musical, they cause an upheaval that threatens the "status quo." But it might just open the door for others to shine as well.
  • Tickets: $10 for adults; $8 for staff, students and senior citizens.

"Little Women"

  • Where: Plainfield South, 7800 W. Caton Farm Road
  • When: 7 p.m. March 18 and 19; 2 p.m. March 20
  • What: The play tells the timeless story about the four March sisters — traditional Meg, wild, aspiring writer Jo, timid Beth, and romantic Amy — and their beloved Marmee. The family is at home in Concord, Massachusetts, while their father is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War.
  • Tickets: $10 for adults; $7 for children (3 and older), students and senior citizens. Children 2 and under enter for free.

"Beauty and the Beast"

  • Where: Plainfield Central, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive
  • When: 6:30 p.m. April 8 and 9; 2 p.m. April 9 and 10
  • What: The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end, and he will be transformed into his former self.
  • Tickets: $8 for adults; $6 for staff, students and senior citizens.
