St Mary Immaculate Parish/School Adopted Streets in Village of Plainfield
Students at St. Mary Immaculate Parish School recently joined the City of Plainfield’s Adopt A Street program. Volunteers from the Ecology Club and Student Council participated in the school’s inaugural project during the last week of April. Several bags of trash were removed along their stretch of Getson Street and adjacent parkways.
The biggest find of the day was a four-foot square campaign sign, with two metal fence posts, lying in tall grass near the road. The students also found that the project was equal parts work and fun. They truly enjoyed helping to keep their community clean and green – and, just maybe, saving their city from a major lawnmower repair bill!

The young adult community at St. Mary Immaculate, FIAT, has adopted Renwick Rd. from Rt. 30 to Rt. 59. A few members spent the afternoon of Earth Day cleaning up this section of their community- and a beautiful day it was! The group separated the recyclables from the trash and had fun making a competition to see who could find the most garbage. The Adopt-A-Street program has given this group a unique way to give back to the community, and the neighbors appreciated their efforts, giving the FIAT crew water as they walked by. Many thanks to the Village of Plainfield for making this opportunity possible.
