St. Mary Students Raise Money by Dressing in Cubs Attire

The students were able to dress up in Cubs clothes instead of their regular uniforms ... for a price.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Students at St. Mary Immaculate School, in Plainfield, Illinois, celebrated the World Champion Chicago Cubs on Friday with a special fundraiser. Students were allowed to dress in Cubs attire or wear red-white- and-blue clothing, instead of their usual uniforms, in exchange for a small donation, according to a news release from the school, which wanted to celebrate the end to the “legend” of the billy goat curse.

The “Casual Day” donations from the students will be used to purchase goats through Heifer International, a charitable organization that works to end world hunger and poverty. The organization purchases animals to help struggling families feed themselves and become self-sustaining. Students have been studying the “Teach a man to fish” philosophy in school, and thought it would be a wonderful idea to donate the proceeds to buy goats for the program.

The school raised enough money to purchase nine goats. At $120 apiece, the total the school will donate is $1080.
