PLAINFIELD, IL — Republican State Rep. Mark Batinick announced Wednesday he's not seeking re-election after seven years in office, according to his office.

Batinick, who represents Plainfield, said in a statement it was an honor to serve the 97th District, which includes parts of Plainfield, Montgomery, Naperville, Oswego, Bolingbrook, Joliet and Shorewood. He assumed office on Jan. 14, 2015 and currently serves as floor leader for the Republican Caucus.

"I have seen such tremendous goodness in our communities, especially with our Helping Hands program at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic," Batinick said in a statement. "I look forward to my final year in the House and continuing to work on issues such as addressing our pension crisis, implementing property tax relief, and creating the conditions for growth in Illinois."
