Still No Winner in Illinois Treasurer Race
Frerichs said Cross' lead has narrowed in "historically close race."

Five days after voters cast their ballots, there was still no clear winner in the race for Illinois state treasurer.
State Rep. Tom Cross, R-Oswego, had a 21,000-vote lead over Democratic State Sen. Mile Frerichs when the Associated Press ended its vote tabulation on Wednesday night, the Northwest Herald reported. Libertarian candidate Matthew Skopeck took about 4 percent of the vote on Tuesday.
On Sunday, Frerichs’ campaign said the race had tightened to within 1,800 votes.

“Today’s tally makes the race for Illinois State Treasurer one of the closest statewide general elections in state history,” the campaign said in a statement, adding that volunteers from both parties continued to monitor the tallying of remaining ballots.
“Vote totals have seesawed since election night, but they have trended in Frerichs’ favor,” the release said, adding that the race is “far from over,” with tens of thousands of ballots still to be counted in counties across the state.
