Stolen Car Was Left Running Outside Plainfield Gas Station: Cops

Some readers reported getting an alert about a carjacking, but police said that wasn't accurate.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police said a vehicle was stolen Monday after a driver left it running outside a gas station near Route 126 and Drauden Road. Sgt. Kevin McQuaid said police responded to the stolen car report at around 10:30 p.m. Monday after a suspect got out of another car, got into the victim's car and drove away.

McQuaid said the stolen vehicle was found a short time later in the 7000 block of Boxwood Lane.

Late Monday and Tuesday, some residents took to Facebook to say they'd gotten an alert about an "armed carjacking" near Lockport Street and Drauden Road around the time of the car theft. The alert came from the Ring doorbell app, and McQuaid said the information was not accurate.
